First and foremost, InCASE works to serve the public, media and legislators by providing the most in-depth and accurate information available about Indiana’s death penalty system. With the belief that the available information generates considerable doubt about the death penalty’s fairness and efficacy, InCASE strives to work with individuals and organizations that share this belief to raise awareness about these issues and elevate the level of dialogue surrounding them. Finally, InCASE serves as the voice for the majority of Hoosiers who support a moratorium, expressing their concerns and desire for change to the Governor and Indiana Legislature.
InCASE aims to help Hoosiers distinguish between the theoretical, functional death penalty and the actual reality of Indiana’s death penalty system, which is starkly different from this ideal. Studies show that the death penalty discriminates based upon race and class. The high cost of death penalty cases diverts resources from proven deterrence methods and much-needed resources for victims’ families. Despite advances in technology, our system does not do enough to protect the innocent from false conviction and possible execution. These troubling facts are more than sufficient to merit a moratorium on executions and it is up to the people of Indiana to express their concerns about the current death penalty and their desire for a moratorium.
We at InCASE hope that this site helps you find the information you need and always welcome input and questions. If you find this site to be a valuable resource, please sign up for our email newsletter and consider giving a donation so that this important work can continue.
